Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
This past month we have had lots and lots of rain... and with it, came a damp house... and mold. It seemed at first, no big deal, a few clothing items with mold... but the more we looked, the more we noticed mold on everything from shoes, leather bags, to furniture, art work and baskets!
Thankfully, we have had help from our cooperative Australian landlord to rid the house of mold... and he is working to fix the problem of the moisture... apparently, our gutters were clogged with nowhere for the water to exit but onto the ground around our foundation...saturating the ground under our house.
And so, we have had a very trying couple of weeks... working, cleaning, experiencing a bit of ill health, living in hotels at certain points, and just trying to maintain focus... persevering. One day at a time.
Thankfully, this week has been fabulous! The first in months...the weather has been dry and sunny...and we have been able to air out our belongings and work to dry out our house... God is so faithful to always provide for our needs.
At times like these, it is always good to think about where our heart is (our treasure), what we value most, where we place our trust... and how we respond.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James, 1:2-4
And, this too is a part of our joy filled journey...
